Lesson 2: Textures

Back to School and the Fall season is one of sensory overload. Leaves change colour and the mornings are crisp. The scent of pumpkin-spiced lattes fills the air during glorious sun-soaked afternoons. Fall is every fashionista’s favourite season because there is seemingly no end to the styling possibilities that abound from a change in seasons.

In our second lesson, we feature the softest, fuzziest and smoothest pieces for Back to School trend textures. The only thing better than how these pieces look is how they feel.

Knitwear

Texture Trend Heavy Knit

ICHI Loose Knit Crop Sweater $99

The go-to every Fall season, knits are the most obvious fabric of sweater weather. This Back to School staple has been resurrected in almost every silhouette, from effortless, long cardigans to oversized pullover pairings.

Lace

Back to School Trend Texture

b.young Lace Mock Neck $59

Once again one of the season’s hottest Back to School trend textures. Lace always has a romantic and feminine allure in its bare yet veiled exposure, the texture and type of the lace is what qualifies it from looking innocent, elegant or provocative. There really isn’t any other fabric that can suggest so many different visual assumptions.

Leather

Leather Texture

Much like colour, the most impactful pairings are ones that bring together pieces on opposite sides of the spectrum, such as sleek leather with a heavy cable knit. This creates balance while allowing each of the unique textures to shine.

Teddy-Bear Trend

Teddy Bear Texture

ICHI Teddy Bear Moto $169

Teddy-bear coats are the ultimate Back to School wardrobe piece. Sure, they bring to mind everything soft and snuggly, but their elegant tailoring and dramatically oversized fit give the outerwear a sense of glamour and sophistication, too.

Suede

Texture Trend Suede

b.young Aria Moto Long Coat $149

Suede anything and everything. From jackets to boots to your wallet. Nothing says quintessential Fall more than suede.

Fringe

Fringe Texture

Cream Bibia Feather Fringe Dress $149

Fringe is hardly a season-specific trend, but considering the unpredictable Alberta Fall weather, this is the time to experiment with it. Be it tassels, knits, or feather featured above, this movement-making texture can be worn solo as a standout piece or in varying lengths and densities from head to toe.

Velvet

Trend Velvet Texture

Joseph Ribkoff Velvet Print Mock Neck Dress $259

When we think of velvet, we think luxurious. Multifaceted and versatile, velvet is a must-have texture for your Back to School wardrobe.

What texture are you looking the most forward to wearing this Fall?
