#bikiniespy is a Stampede-themed fundraiser for Special Olympics Calgary (SOC). Each year on the first Saturday of Stampede espy raises money for SOC by asking 100 women of all sizes to line up outside espy in their bikinis and cowboy boots. These brave ladies each receive a free Stampede outfit with a donation to SOC. Participants are completely styled in a western outfit, valued at $700, by one of espy’s professional fashion stylists!
Since #bikiniespy began in 2012, we have raised $90,000 for SOC! This cause is close to the heart of proprietor, Megan Szanik, as her brother is a Special Olympics athlete. The entire espy team is proud to be involved, and grateful for the support shown by the Inglewood and greater Calgary community.
#bikiniespy also features a Stampede Breakfast, open to the community with a donation to SOC. In 2014 espy called on their favourite Celebrity Chefs to provide breakfast in a unique way, and so began #BATTLEPANCAKE. The inaugural #BATTLEPANCAKE featured Iron Chef Japan Competitor & local restaurateur Michael Noble, Top Chef Competitor & gourmet catering business owner Nicole Gomes, and Masterchef Finalist Danielle Cardozo.
#bikiniespy is an important extension of espy’s unique concept, celebrating the unique differences in everyone, while supporting an important organization in our community.
