@efraser007 ha ha ha your dashing good looks can't break through that fascade of evil .. . . in reply to efraser007 51 mins agoMeagan is espy’s very own award winning makeup artist. When she was six years old, her favourite game to play was “put makeup on Grandma.” Meagan’s talent began to shine at a young age. At only eleven years old she was already asked by her family to do their makeup, and not just for play time anymore. When she was twelve she was allowed to start experimenting with mascara and lip gloss on herself. Meagan can make anyone look 10 years younger with a 5 min face. Her knowledge and experience in the industry, coupled with her creativity and talent makes Meagan a highly sought-after artist who is always down to give you a single tip to improve your cosmetic routine.
Meagan graduated with honours from the Blanche Macdonald Institute of Applied Design in Vancouver where she studied both make-up and hair. In 1999 Meagan received her Red Seal of Apprenticeship in Cosmetology in Kelowna. “I’ve been doing hair, makeup, and photo shoots my entire life.” After school, she worked in Vancouver on film and television sets for a year, but moved home to Kelowna because, “being a vegan, Kraft Services was just not [her] cup of tea.”
In Kelowna, Meagan opened a Mac Cosmetics store and worked for a few years with the company. Following her success in Kelowna, she moved to Australia to discover more makeup and fashion. She worked for Sydney Fashion Week, where she styled models and did hair.
Australia proved to be too far away from home for Meagan, and also, “too sparkly,” for her taste. Her family, and especially her now 7 year old niece and best friend in the world, pulled her back to Calgary where she met her husband and started freelancing hair, makeup, and photography.
“espy gives me the chance to meet and interact with a wide range of people on both a makeup and styling level.”
Since moving to Calgary, Meagan has received many awards for her work in both hair and makeup. In 2005, she won first place for Evening Fashion Makeup. She also styled the cover of Canadian Hairdresser Magazine. In 2010 Meagan took second place for the Redkin Total Look competition. Meagan is also an educator in makeup. In 2008, she built and formulated an entire curriculum for a local makeup and design institute.
Among Meagan’s interest in fashion and makeup, she is also a “dolphin defender.” In March of 2011 she organized a fundraiser to save the dolphins in Taiji, Japan. She held the event in conjunction with a screening of the Oscar winning documentary, The Cove, directed by Louie Psihoyos at the Plaza Theatre in Calgary. She auctioned off photographs of her work on a model that she transformed into a struggling dolphin. She raised thousands of dollars at the event and all the proceeds went to the Earth Island Institute headed by her mentor and star of The Cove, Rick O’Barry.
So what brought this talented, driven and creative jetsetter to espy?
“espy gives me the chance to meet and interact with a wide range of people on both a makeup and styling level.”
The most important thing Meagan wants to impart to espy’s clients is confidence in both clothing and cosmetics, and treatment that is fair, honest, and genuinely helpful. To Meagan, personal style means being comfortable, happy, and confident. “When you put something on that makes you look and feel good, that projects.”
Meagan has the same knack for makeup that she has for fashion. Not only has she been playing with makeup since she was a little girl, but she has also been playing with her look through clothing. During her hard rocker phase, she would wear black jeans that were so tight she would have to spray her jeans with water after she finally got them on. Then, of course throw on her knee high Doc Martins. She still loves to experiment with her look, but now her jeans fit comfortably, without the use of water.
Meagan would describe her personal style as a “tattooed animal activist, with a Kate Middleton twist.” But at the end of the day, her favourite thing to wear is a pair of well-fitted jeans and a tight white tank top. Meagan knows the basics are literally the base for further exploration and creativity. Meagan’s excitement in creating a look for the client is glowingly apparent and always appreciated. She is the girl that will make your day with tips, advice, a great new top you never would have thought to put on yourself, or a good chat with someone who seems like old friend from the moment you meet her. Her talent, experience, and natural flair for creativity within the fashion industry translate into a killer espy stylist and a killer new look for you.
